“God, what do You want us to do? Where do You want us to go? Who should we send?”

These are the questions God’s people have asked since the beginning. Centuries may pass, culture may change, but the questions remain the same, and so does God’s faithfulness to answer. When we look at Scripture, our own stories, and the testimonies of believers around us, we see a consistent pattern: God speaks, God leads, and God provides.

These were the very questions a group of believers at Christ Community Church Huntersville began asking when God stirred their hearts to plant what would eventually become Christ Community Church Mooresville.

In 2006, Mooresville looked very different than it does today. With a population of just 20,829 at the time (compared to a 2026 estimate of 52,884 — a remarkable 153% increase), it was a growing town, and CCC Huntersville recognized that wherever people are, the gospel should be present too. With a vision to plant a church in an expanding community, Christ Community Church Huntersville sensed God directing their attention toward Mooresville.

Under the leadership of Pastor Dean Burris, Christ Community Church Mooresville was planted as an autonomous church. Several families from Huntersville committed to support the launch for one year, and for some of them, that one faithful year became twenty. These families were organized into community groups that met regularly to build relationships and prepare for the launch. Loving through community has been part of our DNA from the start, and those early groups helped lay the foundation for the community groups we have today.

Early on, it became clear that this church would be defined not by human strategy, but by God’s unmistakable hand. In Matthew 19:26, Jesus reminded His disciples: "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible". Looking back over our history, we don’t see a list of accomplishments; we see a series of “But God” moments — moments where only He could have orchestrated the timing, the people, the resources, and the vision.

And all of it began with one honest prayer:

“God, what do You want to do in Mooresville through this church?”

And one of the first answers God gave was to this question:

“Who will lead this church?”

Only God could provide the right shepherd, and He certainly did. As CCC Huntersville prayed for the future pastor of this new church, God was already stirring the hearts of Pastor David Teague and his wife, Katie. At the time, David was serving as the middle school pastor at CCC Huntersville. As they prayed, they sensed God inviting them to take a bold step of faith and become the first Senior Pastor of Christ Community Church Mooresville. As Pastor David said, “If God is in this, He will direct it. And our job is just to say yes to Jesus. And if we're obedient to Him, He’ll take care of the rest.” And over the past twenty years, God has honored that yes again and again and again.

This was only the beginning. The story of Christ Community Church Mooresville is one long 20-year testimony of God doing what only God can do.

As we begin our anniversary year, reflecting with gratitude on all He has done, we invite you to consider:

· What “But God” moments have you experienced at CCCM?

· And, as we look ahead, what might God want to do next — in us, through us, and beyond us — that only He can do?

Here’s a sampling of what we’ve planned for the next four months:

  • Lobby Displays: We’ll set up displays in the lobby with artifacts, photos, notes of thanksgiving, and other meaningful pieces from CCC’s 20-year history.

  • Days of Prayer & Fasting: On the 20th of February, March, and April, our whole church is invited to pray and fast, thanking God for His faithfulness and asking for His guidance for the future.

  • Monthly Story Videos: Each month, we’ll share a video that tells CCC’s story through interviews and pictures. (You can watch January’s full video here.)

  • Celebration Sunday: On Sunday, April 26, we’ll hold special worship services followed by a community-wide celebration. SAVE THE DATE!

Do you have a photo, a “But God” moment, a testimony of what God has done in your life through CCC, dreams for the future, artifact, or something else you’d like to share? Please do so by emailing sydneyc@cccmooresville.com
